And the family grows.
Submitted by: Mistwolf on 4/30/2003 7:09:41 PM
As Uriel eluded to in his post yesterday, we're enlarging the CoC family to increase the amount of goodies we can bring you, and free up some time for me to spend on some other projects. We have three new family members, so give them all a hearty welcome! Uriel already introduced himself nicely, and the other two are from my old guild, Glas Garda. You may have heard of Guyemelf (and if you haven't, here's your chance!); he has more DAoC learnin' crammed into his noggin than any person I know. Along with the legendary Sunthas, he has lead the DAoC statistical revolution for many, many months. His partner in crime is Bearach, one of the nicest, most knowledgable people I ever met during my Camelot travels. Guye and Bear, as they're called for short, will be poking their heads in to say hello as soon as I get off my lazy bum and give them all the passwords 'n stuff.
I got a few messages from people saying they were having trouble access the mmorpg.com boards because of cookies. Well, to fix that, you can just add mmorpg.com to your trusted sites list - in Internet Explorer, go to
Tools->Internet Options->Privacy->Edit, then type in mmorpg.com, and hit "allow". That should do the trick, no matter what your local privacy settings are. Also, I added the new link on the left for the Kill Tasks, under a section called "Featurettes", where we'll be putting any cool new stuff we get.

A new sheriff in town.
Submitted by: Uriel on 4/29/2003 12:00:38 PM
First off, no, I'm not Mistwolf. I'm Uriel - some of you may recognize me from my former involvement with CamelotForums, or from the Reaver Guide, but most of you probably have no idea who I am. Which is fine, though hopefully it will change in time. As Classes of Camelot has become a bit of a conflict of interest for Mistwolf, he's asked a few friends to start taking over most of the day-to-day work here at CoC. I will be posting news - both the news you're used to, and the kind of game news you find on... well... news sites. Mistwolf has never had the time to be able to post news - I, on the other hand, have no life, and so am free to regurgitate Herald posts as necessary.
No game news today, but we've added a new section of info to CoC - Post-20 Kill Task lists. Post-20 kill tasks are the ones where you hunt mobs, get items with capitalized names, and return them to a specific NPC for some experience. The nav bar should be updated soon, but for now you can just get to them with the following: Albion  Hibernia  Midgard

A case of the warm fuzzies, and the cold blues.
Submitted by: Mistwolf on 4/24/2003 1:49:29 PM
Last week when I was speaking of Dave Rickey, I mentioned that there was another Mythic employee who had gone, but I was mistaken! It turns out that our old friend Lori Silva is still alive and well at Mythic, but working on some different projects/aspects of the game from when we last spoke with her. That's good news, 'cause she's good people. Warm Fuzzies. I've been trying for the life of me to remember who it was that told me she had gone, but I can't place my finger on it. Goes to show what happens when you listen to people.
The plight of our current forum situation finally came to a head. I realize that even the new link I gave you is no longer working. The reason behind this is that Mazevo is no longer sharing Camelot forums, and have completely moved them to different network - gamez.com. Well, that royally blows for all the different Camelot communities that were sharing that forum, Classes of Camelot, Camelot Seer, a host of guilds and groups, and probably a bunch more people that I'm forgetting, because gamez.com is not interested in sharing Camelot Main with Mazevo subscribers. Cold Blues. Personally, I believe it is a slap in the face to many paying subscribers who subscribe simply for that forum. Like me. We *could* just link to the new forums on the new site, but that kinda defeats the purpose of "sharing" them. Plus, I pretty much refuse to affiliate with a game cheat network. If you'd like, you can send your thoughts to the man behind the forums - Zeras@Mazevo.com. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however. Our new friends at MMORPG.com have graciously agreed to share their DAoC forums with our community. So, I'm moving the link on the sidebar to point to the MMORPG.com forums, and hopefully we can make a new home there. You *will* have to register again, as it is a different site - but the good news is that there are basically no ads at all. So, tell your friends, your coworkers, your guild-mates and your bunny slippers - and let's get the discussions rolling.

And all my time is wasted.

Time is definately a vice of the busy. Couple things for ya'll today - first off, our forum provider recently had two major changes - first, they killed those ridiculous commercial ads between pages (IGN and every other site that uses them should be shot.), but they also changed the structure of the forums, which made it so people could not log in if they used the link on the nav bar (but bookmarks still worked, surprisingly). Well... I updated the Forum Link on the left of the page, and everyone should now be able to log in and post again - commercial free. If you still have a problem, please let me know. Second, I've got a new link on the links page to MMORPG.com, which has the potential to be one of the best general portal sites around, so give 'em a look. Thirdly, our good friend Camelot Seer has updated it's layout and URL, and can now be found at http://daoc.gamescape.com - so update your bookmarks!
Of importance this time around is the fact that Dave Rickey is no longer working for Mythic Entertainment. Of the three people I truly understood and respected at Mythic, two are now gone. What else does the future hold for them? Does this co-incide with Mythic's new "funding" ? I guess, only time will tell.

Hold your breath and drift away...

O.k. well, the printable spell lists are fixed now as well, and shouldn't list turret for every SI spell... I think... maybe... most likely... well, with my track record, who knows? =) Anyhow, I also updated the Wizard and Runemaster DD w/ Resist Debuff spells to reflect the fact that they debuff 10%, as opposed to 5%, like spells-si.xml says. Also, the Animist Pet Heal Bomber is listed as a Pet Heal Bomber and not a Single Target Heal Bomber now. Speaking of Animists, I added a link to the Animist TL's forums - they're more active than any other Animist forums, far as I know, and have a bunch of good info in 'em. So check 'em out. And now... time to watch South Park!

The Price of FDisk
Submitted by: Mistwolf on 4/6/2003 10:37:02 AM
So, formatting every HD I own last week turned out to be a bad thing. Not to digress, but have you ever seen someone in chat say something like... That is a "Bad Thing" (tm) ? What are they thinking? I don't wanna get into a legality debate about the on-the-fly trademarking of random English words and phrases, but beyond that, you'd think these people would realize that the phrases they attempt to covet as their own have been said before, a lot =) Anyhow, installing all new versions of the software I use to generate the spells & styles lists made some errors in them that were pretty insignificant, and I'm surprised people noticed things like the style lists cutting off after the Bow line, and every single spell saying it was a Turret, but I fixed 'em anyhow, cause I'm such a "Bad Arse" (tm). So everything should be back up to it's former glory... please let me know if there's anything else I missed. "Sorry for the downtime, folks" (tm). Oh wait, I think Mythic owns that trademark. =)

No, saying LIGHTNING did not make me 1337.

Musta been back luck, that evil saying. Both my laptop and my PC bit it this week. Yay. woot. It's a good thing I had backups of all the scripts I use *grumble*. Anyhow, I re-ran the spells lists and the style lists for this patch, and fixed the "Woodspirit" animist spell line - though spells-xi.xml says they are turrets, they are actually bombers. There's a new all-around informational site called DAoC Weave - looks choc full o' goodness. Other than that, the only other thing this past week has been the Mythic partnering with TA associates... from what I gather, DAoC was produced originally on a budget of 4.5 million, and TA associates game Mythic 32 Mil, I believe. I can't remember the exact number, but it highish. Anyhow, Mark was also caught on Waterthread saying he'd never spend more than 10mil making Imperator (or some such nonsense...) and that he's thinking of taking on a third project with this extra money - but assuming he only spends 10 on that, I think it leaves a bunch to be flagrantly splurged on lime green hotpants for the Spraggons, and a big ol' can of raid for the areas around Huginfel. Cause we all know the Spraggons need their hotpants.
